On Saturday, the day that plenty of people were waiting in eager anticipation for finally arrived.

Yes, the royal wedding happened, bringing billions together as we shed tears of joy for the momentous occasion that was the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

And it certainly didn’t disappoint. It was everything you’d expect a royal wedding to be and more.

Did you miss the big day? Don’t worry, watch the highlights of the wedding here:

There were heaps of emotional moments, an abundance of funny moments and nonstop meme-worthy moments.

Those of us whose invitation to the biggest wedding of the year got lost in the mail, got to watch the day’s festivities at home.

However, when all the vows were said and done and the happy couple left the chapel as husband and wife and made their way to their wedding reception, we had to come to terms with the fact that our ability to partake in the ceremony had now come to an end.

I mean, wouldn’t it be great if the entire day was televised including wedding reception.

Now we’ll never get to see Oprah mingling with the Queen!

But at least we have plenty of photos to gush over and I’m not just talking about pictures likes these:

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have now released three official photographs from their wedding day on Saturday.

In addition to the beautiful family photos, the married couple has thanked everyone who made their special day a possibility.

A palace spokesman has said that Harry and Meghan “feel so lucky to have been able to share their day with all those gathered in Windsor and also all those who watched the wedding on television across the UK, Commonwealth, and around the world”.

In one of the pictures taken by Alexi Lubomirski, the newly married couple can be seen posing very lovingly on the east terrace of Windsor Castle, clearly still swept up in all of the excitement.

In a different photo, Harry and Meghan are snapped with the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Doria Ragland, the bride’s mother, and the bridesmaids and pageboys, including Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

The last picture is of the duke and duchess again with the young bridesmaids and pageboys.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said:

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex would like to thank everyone who took part in the celebrations of their wedding on Saturday. They feel so lucky to have been able to share their day with all those gathered in Windsor and also all those who watched the wedding on television across the UK, Commonwealth, and around the world.”

“Their Royal Highnesses are delighted with these official portraits taken by Alexi Lubomirski and are happy to be able to share them today. They would also like to say thank you for all of the generous messages of support they have received.””

Celebrity photographer Lubomirski said:

“It has been an incredible honor and privilege to document the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s inspiring journey of love, hope and family; from the engagement photos, all the way through to the official wedding and family portraits on Saturday. This has been a beautiful chapter in my career and life, that I will happily never forget.”

The stunning photos sure do make a nice finishing touch to a pretty spectacular wedding.

In any case, we wish the couple a long and happy marriage with plenty of kids!
